SUBJECT: Authorize the award of Bid 21-14 to Road Solutions, LLC, for the construction of two traffic signals at the intersections of Clear Creek Road/Bunny Trail and W. Elms Road/Tallwood Drive
BACKGROUND AND FINDINGS:
Traffic at the intersection of SH-201/Clear Creek Road and Bunny Trail is currently controlled by a stop sign on Bunny Trail, and the intersection of W. Elms Road and Tallwood Drive is currently controlled by a two-way stop on Tallwood. A transportation engineering study, which analyzed the traffic signal warrants identified in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), concluded that traffic signalization warrants have been met and that both intersections should be signalized. City Council authorized a professional services agreement with Kimley Horn and Associates, Inc. (KHA), for the design and construction administration services for the two intersection signalization projects. The city published the bid for the two intersection signalization projects in one bid package. On February 25, 2021, the City of Killeen received competitive bids from three contractors for the New Traffic Signals (2 Locations) Project. The bids, opened and read aloud through zoom online video conferencing, are as follows:
- Road Solutions, LLC with a total bid of $546,358.71
- Austin Traffic Signal Construction Co. with a total bid of $584,603.00
- DeNucci Construction, LLC with a total bid of $815,318.00
