BACKGROUND AND FINDINGS:

The Mayor and City Council make annual appointments to the various boards, commissions, and committees each year and throughout the year as vacancies occur.

The Crime Solutions Committee was established by City Council in March 2021 (RS-21-033R). When created, the concept was that various entities and citizen groups would comprise the committee.  The committee was originally established with thirteen places comprised of a City of Killeen Councilmember, community members, Bell County Commissioner, and representatives from Fort Cavazos, Killeen ISD, business, civic, youth, and faith-based organizations.

On February 27, 2024, (RS-24-041R) City Council approved a membership restructuring of the Crime Solutions Committee. The new structure is a twelve (12) member and one (1) ad-hoc member structure:

City of Killeen Councilmember

Bell County Commissioner

One community member from each of the City of Killeen Council Districts (appointed by each District Councilmember

One at-large community member from within the Killeen city limits or ETJ (appointed by the entire City Council

Fort Cavazos representative

City of Killeen business representative (appointed by the entire City Council)

Community-Based Organization representative (appointed by the entire City Council)

Faith-Based Organization representative (appointed by the entire City Council)

Youth Organization representative (appointed by the entire City Council)

In order to make appointments to the committee, City Council action is required.
