SUBJECT: Appointing a City Official and Citizen Members to the Animal Advisory Committee

BACKGROUND AND FINDINGS:

The Mayor and City Council make annual appointments to the various boards, commissions, and committees each year and throughout the year as vacancies occur.

Section 6-36 of the Code of Ordinance states the Animal Advisory Committee is composed of at least one (1) licensed veterinarian, one (1) city official, one (1) person whose duties include the daily operation of the city's animal shelter, one (1) representative from an animal welfare organization and four (4) citizens.

In May 2023 the city official position was vacated (Assistant City Manager Danielle Singh resigned); In October 2023 newly appointed citizen representative John Louch and citizen representative Sue Cummings resigned. These resignations left three vacancies on the Animal Advisory Board. The committee has been unable to meet as the vacancies prevent a quorum.

In order to make appointments to fill the unexpired terms of the vacancies, City Council action is required.
