SUBJECT: Appointing Citizen Member to Civil Service Commission

BACKGROUND AND FINDINGS:

The Mayor and City Council make annual appointments to the various boards, commissions, and committees each year and throughout the year as vacancies occur.

City staff received a letter of resignation from Civil Service Commissioner Kelley Jenks on February 24, 2021. Mr. Jenks’ term expires September 30, 2021. Per Local Government Code Sec. 143.006, Civil Service Commission members are to be appointed by the chief executive (city manager) and confirmed by the City Council. City Manager Kent Cagle has reviewed the applications on file and appoints Kevin Williams to fill the unexpired term.

City Council action is required to recognize the resignation of Mr. Jenks and confirm the city manager’s appointment of Mr. Williams.

THE ALTERNATIVES CONSIDERED:

No other alternatives were considered.
