BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The position of Fire Chief was approved in the FY 16-17 Budget. Section 29 of the City Charter authorizes the City Manager to appoint Department Heads with approval of the Council.
DISCUSSION/CONCLUSION
The Fire Chief position was advertised in a variety of outlets to include the City of Killeen website, Texas Municipal League Career Center, Texas City Management Association, Texas Fire Chiefs Association, and Texas Commission of Fire Protection websites. The eligibility list included thirty-three (33) applicants. The most highly qualified candidates, a total of four, were selected for interview by two panels that included City Department Heads and citizens from the community.
Of the candidates, Brian Brank was selected to serve as Fire Chief; his resume’ is attached. Mr. Brank will be present in our audience Tuesday night (November 8, 2016).
FISCAL IMPACT
Sufficient funds are available in the Fire Department for this position.
RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation to approve the selection of Brian Brank to serve as Fire Chief.
