SUBJECT: Real Property Purchase for Killeen Fire Department Facilities
BACKGROUND AND FINDINGS:
City Council approved $9,000,000.00 for the funding of a new Fire Station No. 5 in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Budget. This new station will replace the existing station located across the street at 907 W. Jasper Road.
The existing Fire Station No. 5 is undersized and in need of replacement for this portion of the City. It has been determined that a larger four bay fire station is needed in this part of the City. The construction and opening of a fire station in the identified area will help to improve response times, maintain the City of Killeen's Insurance Services Organization (ISO) rating, and add much needed resources to the Killeen Fire Department.
When looking for a location to replace the existing facility, this property became the first choice based on its location. The school has not been used for several years and the Killeen Independent School District (KISD) has expressed an interest in selling the property. KISD, was contacted by Killeen Fire Department staff to inquire about their plans for the property. The school indicated that this is a surplus property that they are looking to sell. An agreement has been reached for the purchase of the 5.93 acres of land with frontage on W. Jasper Drive and Florence Road.
