SUBJECT: Adopt a resolution in support of the application to the KTMPO Call for Projects for Killeen- Ft. Hood Regional Trail
BACKGROUND AND FINDINGS:
On August 31, 2023, the Killeen-Temple Metropolitan Planning Organization (KTMPO) held an area-wide Call for Projects. The Call for Projects is in preparation for the development of the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) that show approved transportation projects. The KTMPO funds may be used for construction of all modes of transportation (roadway, bike/pedestrian, and transit). If selected, the grant would provide an additional $15,000,000 in funding for the Killeen-Ft. Hood Regional Trail project though KTMPO to be used for construction only costs but not costs associated with design, studies, or property acquisition.
This trail system will provide connectivity from the Texas A&M University - Central Texas located at South Clear Creek Road to the future Westside Regional Park to be located just beside the Pershing Lake (also known as Soil Conservation Service Site 1 Reservoir) near W Central Texas Expressway / I-14 and Fort Cavazos. Therefore, this project will provide hike and bike trail for residents in Killeen and Fort Cavazos and will improve mobility. The proposed trail is part of the City's plan for a regional trail system.
The city is proposing to submit an application for this request that is due on October 27, 2023.
As part of the application, a resolution of support by the governing body is needed to be included in the application.
