SUBJECT: Authorizing a Memorandum Understanding with Workforce Solutions of Central Texas
BACKGROUND AND FINDINGS:
Workforce Solutions of Central Texas would like to partner with the City of Killeen to implement a temporary job placement program - Disaster Relief and Workforce Re-Entry Program aimed at providing meaningful work experience and re-employment training for second-chance individuals. This program will offer short-term disaster recovery assistance, job readiness support and connections to long-term employment opportunities.
The City will provide the internship positions and Workforce Solutions will pay the salary for the internship, as well as worker's comp, liability insurance, and background checks. The City will be completing our own background check as well to ensure consistency with our existing processes and requirements. Approved interns will work on project-based opportunities. An existing City of Killeen supervisor will train the intern/s and oversee project progress. This model will also allow the City to identify individuals fit for longer term employment, assisting in filling available vacancies.
