SUBJECT: Appointment of Commissioners to the Youth Advisory Commission for FY24
BACKGROUND AND FINDINGS:
The Youth Advisory Commission (YAC) was created in 1993 to serve as a liaison to the Killeen City Council. It exists to provide the youth of our community opportunities through volunteerism and service, by taking initiatives that are directed toward effective change.
YAC is comprised of up to thirty-seven (37) commissioners and an unlimited number of resource committee members, all of whom shall be students in the eighth through twelfth grade levels of the Killeen Independent School District service area. Prospective applicants were interviewed by Councilmember Segarra, Councilmember Adams, and Parks and Recreation Staff. The interview process for candidates was completed on January 20th of the appointment year. Three (3) students are recommended to serve as commissioners for FY24 based on their leadership ability and community involvement. These additional Commissioners will bring the total number to fifteen (15).
