FROM: Kent Cagle, City Manager
SUBJECT: Resolution of Support for the Central Texas Water Alliance
BACKGROUND AND FINDINGS:
Three generations of Central Texans have relied on the water supply from the impoundment of Lake Belton since 1954. Seventy years later new supply options are needed as Texas is the fastest growing state in the country, with Bell County and the Central Texas region growing at a faster rate than Texas. Growth along Interstates 35 and 14 corridors are forecasted to continue for the foreseeable future. No single entity in the region can adequately address or meet the needs to secure adequate, equitable, sustainable, and resilient water Supply and water infrastructure for the future.
The creation of a water alliance would be the best vehicle for meeting the water supply and water infrastructure needs of the region in the future.
The Central Texas Water Alliance will be created through the passage of legislation and filed by local State Representative Brad Buckley and State Senator, Pete Flores in the 88th Texas Legislature in 2025.
