BACKGROUND AND FINDINGS:

 

On November 1, 2022 the City Council issued a motion of direction to staff to name the Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport north concourse after General Robert M. Shoemaker and the south concourse after Mayor Timothy L. Hancock.  The Killeen Fort Hood Regional Airport is located at 8101 Clear Creek Road.  Both the north concourse and the south concourse are currently unnamed.

 

THE ALTERNATIVES CONSIDERED:

 

The City Council has two options: they may decline to name one or both concourses, or they may approve naming the airport concourses after General Robert M. Shoemaker and Mayor Timothy L. Hancock.

 

Which alternative is recommended? Why?

 

Based on the City Council’s November 1, 2022, motion of direction to staff to name the Fort Hood Regional Airport north concourse after General Robert M. Shoemaker and the south concourse after Mayor Timothy L. Hancock, staff recommends that the City Council consider naming the concourses after General Robert M. Shoemaker and Mayor Timothy L. Hancock.

What is the amount of the expenditure in the current fiscal year? For future years?

 

The approximate cost associated for the lettering is $5,600.

This will be a one-time expenditure.

 

Is this expenditure budgeted?

 

No. A budget amendment will be required to fund this item.

 

If not, where will the money come from?

 

A budget amendment will be required to move money from the fund balance in the Aviation Fund.

 

Is there a sufficient amount in the budgeted line-item for this expenditure?

 

There is sufficient funding in the Aviation Fund Balance.  A budget amendment will be required in the future to appropriate these funds.

 

RECOMMENDATION:

 

Staff recommends that the City Council consider naming the Killeen- Fort Hood Regional Airport north concourse after General Robert M. Shoemaker and the south concourse after Mayor Timothy L. Hancock.
